The plot is one of the reasons that makes Akira the best anime movie ever. Akira anime is directed by Katsuhiro Otomo, who also authored the original manga. The manga started its publication in in Young magazine and published 6 volumes over the next eight years. The manga was a hit among its audience and was eye-balled for an adaptation before it was even finished.
But unlike the manga which was vast and which took over eight years to tell the story, the movie had to be short and therefore a lot of manga content has to be dropped. In the end, Otomo himself decided to direct and choose what content to keep in the film. The manga never had a lead protagonist, it focused on different characters at a time. For the people who wanted to get started with the manga, it is quite different from the movie. It covers plot points and stories that the movie just glossed over.
The manga is a spectacle, with amazing art and attention to detail. The animation quality is one of the reasons that makes Akira the best anime ever. Unlike any other anime, Akira used 24 fps frames per second animation. Even modern anime or 2D animation from anywhere around the world use 12 fps.
This was a drastic shift from the traditional approach and the result was spectacular. The Animation was fluid and the character motion was much natural. Every hit, every crash, every fall has a weight to it. The action was amazing and beautiful to watch.
Akira had its voiceover completed before the animation phase and as a result, the mouth movement feels more natural. It is amazing how the team drew over 1,60, cels without the help of any computers.
In some aspects, the animation quality of Akira is even better than a lot of modern anime and it makes Akira the best anime to watch. All of it took a fortune to make. Akira was the most expensive anime at the point and took over 5. Everyone was skeptical when so much money was poured into a project but in the end, it all paid off with its success. The cultural impact of Akira cannot be understated. I recommend grabbing the 25th anniversary Bluray set. Here is a link to it on Amazon and If you have Crunchyroll, you can find it here!
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this post. I would love to hear what your favorite anime films are! Leave them down in the comments below. To start it off, I recently fell for Paprika. Such a wonderful film! Akira is such a classic.
Overall though, Sci-fi and motor cycle gangs at least for me, are a must-watch! The direction, animation and plot are amazing to me. Til then…ze film…again. Akira is great, but it's on the same level as something like Ghost in the Shell for exapmle. It's easily one of my favorites, and even in my top 5 on MAL although the Ghost in the Shell movie is my Even with GitS I wouldn't say it's the best, it could easily be argued, but there is no "best".
Well I wouldn't say it's the best, but it definitely got a lot of people into anime and manga. There are lot of anime films I liked better, but it's not bad either. Hear me! I am the god Yato. I hereby lay thee waste with the Seki and expel thy vast defilement. I cleanse thee! Akira still has some of the best animation ever produced for an anime it even has lip sync! Ghost in the Shell and Spirited Away are better overall.
Up until that year, yes. I've procrastinated watching this movie for so many years.. I now wonder what the hype is about :v. But my feels. No, the only good part is the ending and the stellar animation quality. Akira looks amazing for a 27 year old movie. Keep in mind that everything in this trailer—including the bikes, backgrounds, and explosions—was hand drawn and hand painted.
As much as these forums hate this goddamn word so much. The story was a bit jumbled. It's the result of compressing a lot of the original material into the movie. But visually speaking, it's an amazing movie. It's still a movie I thoroughly enjoy. I like to refer to this video when talking about the movie. I didn't enjoy the movie honestly, but hey, that's just my opinion lmao.
You forgot Interstella exists, young man. I really enjoyed Akira, but there are so many movies that can argued to be as good as, if not better than Akira. AniDB MangaUpdates. Obviously, Akira was such a very good anime movie, it was a milestone for the others, but if it was the best its questionable, can you like it or not, I prefer ghost in the shell. Well in my humble opinion I think that akira has many problems regarding it's running time.
There are too many subplots, and too little characters are fleshed out. But there are couple nice things about that movie, like great animation, kick Ass soundtrack and great cyberpunk feel. I don't, unfortunately. Sorry bud.
