What is an unofficial score? Well, every student who takes the GMAT takes a slightly different version of the test, depending on where and when they take it. Your GMAT score and percentile for each section is compared with other students who are taking the same test.
Sometimes, you may take a slightly more difficult or slightly easier version of the test. The unofficial score gives a snapshot of how you performed based to other test takers. Your official scores are double-checked against other test takers to ensure that every test is weighted according to its difficulty.
After viewing your unofficial score, you should decide whether or not you want to keep your scores. If you keep your scores, they will be sent to the schools you chose on your GMAT registration.
It also tests how well you analyze and understand texts, your critical thinking, and your problem-solving abilities. Having good critical thinking skills is key to a high GMAT score. Two sections, analytical writing and integrated reasoning, are scored separately, while two other sections, quantitative and verbal, are also scored separately but then combined to give your composite score. MBA programs will weigh the verbal and quantitative scores most heavily for admittance.
The quantitative and verbal sections each have a score of between 0 and 60, where the average scores are 39 and 27 for the quantitative and verbal sections, respectively.
